Celtic Colours 2024: 5 Night Stay Package and Event Itinerary

We’ve put together a sample itinerary for you to consider for your 5 night stay with us.  There are also other communities within driving distance from Isle Madame (Baddeck: 1h 30 mins, Mabou 1h 20 mins), so feel free to swap out events as you wish.  Google maps is your friend here - but we are also available to help and are just a phone call or email away.

Day 1: Thursday, October 10th

Welcome to The Clairestone Inn! Check into our cozy hotel, your home away from home for the next five days. Enjoy a warm welcome from our friendly staff and settle into your comfortable room with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.

Explore Isle Madame: Grab a coffee at La Goelette Cafe, browse the artisan gift shop and dive into our Acadian history.  Take a leisurely stroll around the picturesque villages. Breathe in the salty fresh Atlantic air.

Enjoy a lively wing night with live music at The Island Nest 7pm-9pm.

Day 2: Friday, October 11th

Enjoy breakfast then head towards the Causeway for the day. Take a trail walk and enjoy a picnic lunch in a scenic spot, surrounded by nature. Relax and soak in the tranquility of the great outdoors.  Head to one of the following events:

1pm: Lifting Spirits and Feet with Celtic Music, Port Hood

OR

2pm: Community Ceilidh at The Causeway, Port Hastings

Enjoy an authentic Acadian meal:

4pm: Fishcake and Beans Supper, Port Hawkesbury

Kick off your festival experience with a spectacular welcome concert. Immerse yourself in the rich sounds of traditional Celtic music performed by world-renowned artists. Feel the energy and excitement as the week-long festival begins!

7:30pm: Let’s Go Up Home Tonight, Port Hawkesbury

Driving Distances:

The Clairestone Inn to Port Hood: 1 hour and 8 mins, 94 kms;

Port Hood to Port Hawkesbury: 36 mins, 51 kms; 

Port Hawkesbury to The Clairestone Inn: 30 mins, 42 kms


Day 3: Saturday, October 12th

Today you will explore Cape Breton’s South Coast!

Start your day with either of these events (if the weather is nice, opt for the lighthouse tour!):

9am, 12:30pm, or 2:30pm Blacksmithing Workshop OR 10am Guiding Lights of Isle Madame lighthouse tour

Visit a local church, learn about its history, and appreciate its architectural beauty.

12pm: Doors Open for Churches

Afternoon Free Time: Explore St. Peter’s village and canal or head to Point Michaud Beach for a stroll.

5:00pm: Enjoy dinner at The Groundswell Pub

7:30pm: French Connections, La Picasse

Day 4: Sunday, October 13th

Today you’re heading to the Sydney/Louisbourg area along the beautiful #4 highway for the day!

8am: Depart from The Clairestone Inn

10:30am: Day in the Life of a Miner, Glace Bay

Free time: Explore downtown Sydney (visit the big fiddle!), or head to Louisbourg for a hike along the lighthouse trail.

6pm: Immerse yourself in history with  Step Into the Past in Louisbourg.  A magical evening of music by candlelight. Experience the enchanting sounds of Celtic melodies blending with the natural beauty and dark, starry skies of Cape Breton at night.  This show is quite popular and sells out quickly!

Glace Bay to Louisbourg: 42mins, 50 kms

Louisbourg to The Clairestone Inn: 1h 54 mins, 153 kms

Day 5: Monday, October 14th

Spend the entire day on Isle Madame!

9am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm Blacksmithing Workshop OR 10am Guiding Lights of Isle Madame tour (whichever you did not choose on Saturday)

12pm/1pm: Doors open for Churches

2pm: Tales and Tunes, St. John’s Center for the Arts

Join a community dinner where you'll feast on traditional Cape Breton cuisine, followed by an intimate concert featuring local musicians. Share stories and laughter with fellow festival-goers.

4pm: Meat Pie Supper, Arichat

7:30pm: Concert A Good D’Escousse for a Party, D’Escousse
